Our Mission

Independent investigative journalism and automated civic reporting for Black Nashville.

The Nashville Maroon exists to make Nashville's civic life legible to the Black communities most affected by it — through investigative reporting, automated meeting summaries, and rigorous accountability journalism.

What we cover

  • Metro Council, Planning Commission, and School Board decisions that shape Nashville.
  • Housing, education, policing, and economic development — with a Black Nashville lens.
  • Local businesses, civic figures, and the institutions that move power in our city.

How we work

Our journalism is reader-supported. We publish under transparent editorial standards (see policy) and disclose every relationship between our reporting and our funding. Sponsored content is clearly marked and held to the sponsorship policy.

Read our editorial ethics for how we handle sourcing, corrections, anonymity, and conflict of interest.
